COLLEGE ADMISSIONS THE
SMART WAY
FAQ’s
What
are the different types of college admissions options?
There are
several kinds of admission options:
Early Decision, Early Action, Regular and Rolling. Early Decision is a process in which
students commit to their first-choice school and promise to enroll if
admitted. Applicants apply early and
learn if they have been admitted early.
If admitted, they agree to withdraw all other applications. (However, an applicant who has applied for
financial aid but does not receive enough aid to make attendance possible can
turn down the Early Decision offer.)
Early
Action enables a student to apply early to a school in hopes of gaining an
early acceptance, but does not have the same obligation to attend that Early
Decision has. The May 1 deadline to
commit applies with Early Action. Both
Early Decision and Early Action procedures may vary by school, so it is
important to follow each school’s instructions, rules, and deadlines.
With Regular
Decision, the student turns in his or her college applications by each school’s
specified date and receives admission decisions by mid April. Under Regular Decision, a student is
required to commit to the school of his or her choice by May 1.
Rolling
Admission occurs when a school reviews applications as it receives them and
makes its admission decisions throughout the admissions process.
At Bright
Futures College Consulting, we look at all the options with you and help you
decide which are best for you.
When
should I start planning for college?
It’s
never too early to start thinking about the college process. The high school courses you take and the
activities you select will have an impact on which colleges admit you. At Bright Futures College Consulting, we
work with students to showcase their individual skills and talents. Our full service package normally begins
with an initial visit the first semester of junior year, but we can help as early
as freshman year or as late as senior year, depending on your needs.
How does Bright Futures
College Consulting work?
We
get to know our clients and develop a plan suited to meet their individual
needs. We work together as a team,
combining our expertise and knowledge.
My
high school has a college counselor.
Why do I need Bright Futures College Consulting?
We
do not take the place of your high school counselor. Bright Futures College Consulting picks up where your school
counselor leaves off. We try to
provide additional assistance with the college process, including extra help
with your college search, applications, essays, and interviews. We try to give our clients that extra edge
and help them present the best, most complete picture of themselves to the
schools where they apply.
