Ellen Hoffman

Ellen, a Waco native, has lived in Fort Worth for the last twenty-five years.   She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Emory University and a Masters in Counseling from Texas Christian University School of Education.  Ellen spent a year in the Career Center at TCU working with undergraduate and graduate students on a wide range of topics, including resume writing, job interviewing, and choosing a major.  Before her job at the career center, Ellen was a preschool teacher for six years.  Her work at TCU and her teaching experience sharpened Ellen’s skills as a mentor and one who listens to and assists students.  She is highly qualified to help students of different ages find their course of study and interests.

Before Ellen’s teaching career, she spent many years as a community volunteer with the Junior League of Fort Worth, the Child Study Center, Fort Worth Country Day School, the Fort Worth Library, and as chairman of a citywide book fair.  Her favorite work, however, was raising her two daughters and attending their activities and sporting events.    She saw them through the college process and was instrumental in helping them plan their college visits, select essay topics, and choose campuses to investigate.  Her children had success at the colleges of their choice, Southern Methodist University and Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Since completing her master’s degree and requisite internship, Ellen has enjoyed assisting students and their families in the college decision process.  She has seen this procedure firsthand from a mother’s point of view and as an advisor on a college campus.  Her work with preschool children has given her a unique perspective as she has seen parents’ concern for their children’s education even at such a tender young age.  Her background can help alleviate a family’s uneasiness about the college admissions process.  Ellen finds her work in college consulting very exciting and she enjoys working with students at all levels to help them fulfill their goals.
